Seems everyone has to battle mildew at one point or another. I didn't shrink wrap this year and have a slight amount on rear vinyl. I used beach, water, soap mix, and although it faded it, did not completely remove. I found something about 4-5 years back that was great, but can't remember what it was. Anyone have any suggestions before I start experimenting to find the right product again. I think I bought 6-7 products last time before I found the right one to completely remove.

Up hear we have a product call CitroSolve comes in 4 litre jug. Made out of oranges (some kind of by product). Its biodegradable and can be cut with water to whatever strengh you want. This stuff is the best for decks, tops, bilges etc. I'm sure this stuff comes labeled different names.

IMO

If you need to use bleach on your boat I would use color fast bleach
Clorox has it
can be used on bright colored cloths and will not bleach white

also you can use Magic eraser for bath rooms seems to work a little better on the vinyl

I had mildew and other stains on my upholstery that had resisted everything. I finally tried Magic Eraser and was able to remove them. On carpet I've had good luck with a dry brush followed by a pressure washer.

There's a 2 part spray that we bought at Home Depot, that we use on ceramic tile, AND I have used it in the boat as well. It's in the paint section. It's called: Mold Armor. There is a bottle of cleaner. And a bottle of blocker. About $7-8.00/bottle. It works. My wife cleans houses and uses it in showers. How it would hold up in a constantly wet environment, is a guess. BUT it will clean up the mold. BUT, so will bleach, and the Magic Erasers.

There's a product called 'Awesome Orange" Dollar General has a generic version called "Awesome". It works at least as well, maybe better. It's dirt cheap and it lives up to it's name. A professional detailer told me about it after detailing my hospitals 3 Critical Care Ambulances. I use it on the boat and all over the house. Makes mold/mildew go Bye-Bye!!!

Just remember bleach will rot your thread............Use it enough and your seams will start splitting.

Re: Best Mildew Removers

I just bought some 3M spray mildew remover at West Marine this weekend. It was pricey, around $17. I haven't had a chance to try it out. I am hoping it will remove the stains from some seat cushions.
