If you don't want to use what Mercruiser recommends, then use what ever puts a smile on your face.
Fact is, no matter what the oil, or gear lube, some one has already used it and swears by it, and recommends it for everything.
All of your suggestions has be "The Best" by someone, some where, at some time.

i use ph30 fram but i am going to try a longer version in napa 1060 i think but i stiil have to cross referance it as a friend gave the filter
without knowing what it would fit. I have to check clearance with cover too. MY mechanic says fram are the worst filters and he wont use them but i dont have any info besides his opinion. as far as oil any name brand as you change it pretty quick compared to a car.

My local racing engine builder hates Fram filters too. And judging by the trophys and awards he has he just might know a little something...'nutcase

I put Mobile1 and a K&N oil filter in my truck and noticed a significant increase in oil pressure.

Well.....I vote a Purolator Pure One filter and Rotella straight 30 oil.

I have read many filter test charts and the Pure One was by far the best filter.
Most filters have a card board check valve and limited media area,Fram was rated as one of the worst.
The Purolator filters use a laser cut stainless check valve and has far more filter media. The K&N was about 4th on the list.Good filter but over priced.

Yep the never ending debate....the one thing that's consistent....don't use a conventional multi-vis because they thin out...you can use straight 30 for moderate temps and straight 40 for hot temps and a good filter...Purolator...AC...Sierra marine filter....etc...to make it simple....if you have a Merc use their sterndrive 25/40....I have used straight 30 Chevron Delo 400 and a Sierra marine filter...

I just use mercruiser 20w40 fully synthetic. I usually go with whats recommended.
While we are on this though, whats the difference between the mercruiser 20w40 fully synthetic, and mobil 1 20w40 fully synthetic? I have no problem using mobil 1 in my truck with a wix filter.
