1986 Real Sebring, 4.3l Mercruiser, Bravo 1

So it appears that the block is cracked, it happens...

I am wondering what differant options there are for me, in terms of what to replace, and cost. would it be possible with minor addition of parts. to use a mid 90's 4.3l vortec or non vortec truck engine? (used less then $500?) and replace some internals from the mercruiser I have now???

I am about finished with the interior and exterior restoration (Whew!) So if there are cheaper options then a full mercruiser long block that would be helpful (still have to buy exhaust manifolds...)

Any and as much info as possible would be most helpful...

Thanks

'92 and up Chev Astro AWD vans had the Vortec V6 which also had the balance shaft. This engine had a "W" engine code. These were 190 HP motors in that application. If you find a suitable used engine, I would remove the oil pan, check rod and main bearings, inspect for any signs of wear and if the crank was ok, slide in a new set of rod bearings. Mains will go forever. Install a new oil pump as well as front and rear main seals. Why do this? Because you'll never have a better chance.

You should also go with your cam. I'd use your existing carb and intake manifold, and pretty much everything else but the longblock. It would be a good idea to replace the water pump (use a marine one, yours may be cracked) and swap out the frost plugs with bronze ones. Need somebody to do it for you? I live right up 151. ;)
