I have a kind of old ski boat that is pretty solid but the transom has some paint peeling off. The wood is in good shape but I would like to re paint it so it seals up nice and prevents the wood from getting wet for the most part. What is a good waterproof, sealing paint for such a purpose?

Marine Supply stores carry Yacht/Hull paint in gallon cans...fairly expensive, but with good surface preparation, drying and priming, it might be hard to beat! After you scrape and sand it, I'd use some heat lamps/fans or similar to get any moisture out of the wood before painting. Good Luck!

Hmm, are you certain its paint??? I would venture to say you are talking about gel coat and if so that is an entirely different animal.

I am not sure what I want. What is gel coat? Would it be good for this?

Imron or awlgrip is the way to go. I know two people who had their boats shot with Imron and both look as good as if not better than new

You want a hard to chip durable paint that can be washed . I found the 2 part epoxy bathtub restoration kit from HD works well. If the stuff is good enough to coat the inside of a bath tub you know it will work good on the transom of a boat . I used it to paint the bottom on the inside of my tinny. It cleans up well also and spilling gas on it doesnt hurt it

One always needs to be concerned about UV tolerance when using an indoor paint product on an outdoor thing.

i used Interlux PreKote (the associated primer) and then BilgeKote. it is a one part epoxy paint that is for *gasp* bilges, so it is resistant to oil, water, dirt and won't stain easily. it would be great for a transom.
