I am a noob to this forum and to picking the right prop combination for my newly purchased used boat. It is a 1993 18' Wellcraft Scarab with a 3.0 Merc/sterndrive. Took it out this past weekend and it had a hard time pulling my 225 pound body out of the water to ski. Once out of the water the boat had no problems in the top end speed. I have read there is not much I can do to the engine to increase power so a prop change seems in order.
The current prop is a 13" 21 pitch stainless steel - 3 blade. I understand possibly switching to a 4 blade might be helpful to increase the hole shot and to get the boat on plane when towing a skier. However, when I look online at all the choices listed, after plugging in this motor on Iboats prop selector, it is instant confusion. I am not real concerned about losing a bit of top end speed as it does okay with this prop and proper trim up to about 40-45MPH. I can always switch back to the SS prop to cruise.
It would be most appreciated if I could hear some suggestions for the best prop for my intended application. Thank you in advance for your help..
