I have a '93 Glasstream fish and ski boat and it currently has a fish finder with a trolling motor mounted transducer. I'd like to add an in-dash depth finder for when I'm cruising around the lake and to help me gauge when I need to switch to the troller as I approach a fishing spot. How do I tell if I can use a through the hull transducer or not on this fiberglass boat? I don't want to be cutting holes into layers of fiberglass not knowing what I'm cutting into. Or should I just go with a stern mounted transducer. Can anyone recommend a good in dash depth finder that will work fine at speed.

A shoot-through-hull setup will only work if the hull is a single layer of fiberglass- no core. Can you tell if this is the case?

I guess that was my question. I don't know how to tell wither there is a core or not. Is there a way to tell?
