Hi. I need info. on what type of motor would best meet my wishes. I'm going to buy a used 24'-26'walk-around/hardtop. I'll be fishing in the great lakes and ocean so I'd like a motor that Ican use for long runs and trolling. I'm leaning toward a 4-stroke outboard. My main concern is fuel economy especially while trolling. I have the choice of IO with or without kicker, single or double 4-sroke with/without kicker or 2-stroke with/without kicker. Is their one engine out their that can do it all i.e., power for offshore runs and fuel sipping trolling? thanks

Kurt - Let me welcome you before this thread completely fills up. You should be overwhelmed with views on what is best. For me, I'll stay out of it.

Howard
Miami, Fl

If you like to do a bunch of trolling, I think your best investment is a kicker of the appropriate size for the boat your buying. I like to troll and am also looking into a boat set up for trolling and family fun. I'm looking at a kicker for slow speed and low fuel consumption. I think it's a little hard to get larger engines to slow down enough for the speeds I like to troll at. ;)
