Hi- I have a spare transom unit, including a gimbal ring for my 1972 Mercruiser III outdrive. The ring on my boat is cracked, and I will replace next time the boat is out of the water.
My spare is structurally sound, with plenty of material (and for those familiar with this VERY LARGE unit, this is a BEEFY part). There is corrosion and surface pitting, some deep. These parts are NLA and very expensive on the used market, so I want to maximize the life of my parts.
Looking for recommendations on best way to remove old paint/powder coat/surface junk, and then treat and protect from future corrosion.
Boat is in fresh water, occasionally brackish.
Thanks,
Don
