Ok...I got a new pump for my boat. It already has one ,but two is better than one and I always like to error on the side of caution. Anyway....is there a good way to hold down the pump inside the hull, other than screws. I hate putting screws into the hull. I was thinking marine epoxy or maybe putting 5200 under the base. That stuff never comes off. Any other idears?? :D

Frankly, just about any silicone caulk/adhesive will work for holding a bilge pump down. There is little or no forces involved trying to move it around. I used plain old silicone to hold my bilge pump in place and it's solid after several years. I probably labeled "marine caulk", but I do believe almost any pure silicone caulk or adhesive would work for this. I can't think of any reason you'd have to use 5200 - it's not a structural bond you're trying to make. I've also used household silicone caulk to "glue" rod holders to my gunwales (not the kind you fish with, the kind that hold the rods for storage) and they break before the silicone lets loose.

You can silicone down a piece of lexan or some other material that won't rot, & screw it to that in the bilge. (not the hall) Good Luck, Joe

I took a square piece of marine ply and coated it with penetrating epoxy, I then used two part epoxy glue to fit this to the hull and screwed the pump to the marine ply.Fortunately I have easy access via a hatch. The pump has a loose base which allows the pump to be clipped off the base and the base can also be unscrewed from the marine ply, hope this is of some help, Kind Regards William Wright.

Jurgens Craft did it the proper way. Ideally, the block of marine ply would have been glassed in when the boat was made, but adding it after manf'ing is just as good. It is a simple thing to glass a block for a bilge pump in place.

I used 5200. It really holds it. I wish I used somthing else because I'd like to move it, and I fear the mount will break when I try seperate it.

The problem with what Jergenscraft suggests is that when the pump is on the plywood, it raises it up off the bottom of the bilge, and it doesn't get out all of the water. Thats the way mine is set up. Thats why I want to move it.

Sometimes you have to give up that 1/2 to 3/4 inch, & also helps keep some debris out of the pump.

Agree. There are disadvantages in having the pump right dead on the bottom of the lowest point in the bilge, foudling with crud being the major one. There is nothing wrong with a little water in the bilge.
