I have a 14 ft. jon boat with a 15 horse Evinrude and a tilt trailer. My question is, when towing the boat and motor where should the motor be as far as tilt. Should it be tilted up or straight up and down. It just seems to me that running on the road there's alot of shock and vibration with that motor hanging on the back of the boat. Any ideas?????

Take it off and lay it in the boat, or get a transom saver....a support stick with a Y on both ends. Its not good to have it bouncin around when you're going down the road. transom savers cost less than $50. Wouldn't be without one.

Bear - I wouldn't lay it in the bottom of the boat unless you are lookin for dents in the boat or pieces broken off of the motor.

The motor manufacturers recommend it be in the down position, in reverse gear, to keep it from bouncing. That being said, there is still some bounce, so you can use a rubber tiedown strap to secure it if you wish. If you need more ground clearance than your trailer/motor setup gives you, then you want to raise the motor up and support it with a transom saver. Do not just raise it up and expect it to stay there.

As long as the motor has ground clearance put it in the down postion with the Tilt/Run lever in the RUN postion to lock the motor down. Mine has been that way since 1967 with out a problem.
