BF100 cooling question

Just got this 1985 BF100 motor. It fires right up but seems to get very warm quickly. I checked the green oil light but it seems to be burned out (can't even get it to light up with 12v attached). However, with motor running I get a 12v reading off of the wires leading to the light ( I assume the light should be on when running normally?). It might need a new impeller but it did pee pretty well for a while (is there a thermostat on this model? Should it pee right away or after it warms up?). Is there also supposed to be an alarm buzzer? Couldn't find it.

Is it oil pressure? Not enough water through the impeller? Do they run pretty warm normally (makes sense with a thermostat)?

Thanks, Jeff

Re: BF100 cooling question

OK, I replaced the impeller and the oil pressure light. Light works, so I know my oil pressure is OK, but the pee water is still pretty warm. Should this be cool? If so, what else could be the problem?

thanks...

Re: BF100 cooling question

That oil pressure light has nothing to do with overheat condiitions other than you may be overheating and washing that oil out.You have no alarm or overheat system on this engine. The bulbous flange just above the the intake mani is the t stat housing and if that becomes hot while running ,you have a cooling problem. That can be as simple?as a new impeller or as complicated as replacing the engine if the water jackets are so impacked.
