BG44k-Ok to use on my 83 Johnson 235??

I just bought a boat that sat for many years. The engine was tested and repaired before i bought it. Can i run BG44k fuel addative through the fuel system? is it safe?

Also, it is hard to start? what is the correct procedure? i have to turn the primer to the manual position to get it to fire up at the start of each use.
