All U.S. passports will be implanted with remotely readable computer chips starting in October 2006, the Bush administration has announced.

Re: Big brother at it again...!

Just a gimmick that will make someone tons of money.... won't be too long and it will be black market duplicated/counterfited. It has not taken long and there is already counterfit money out there that was supposed to be impossible to counterfit.

Watch DNA will be the next form of ID but it still will not make us safer. We will just be able to identify the good people. All this money being spent to what end???

Heck why not micro chip everyone just like a pet... we can do it at birth!

It is just too much money to do nothing.

This'll speed you through the line at customs...but I sure hope they don't expect the airlines to pay for the danged machines, like they did with the scanners we have now.

Thats a good one crab bait LOL. Guess then they can play musical chairs to scan everyone!

I got to see some of the world when I was in the Navy. That was enough experience for me to stay put on my own ground. There is too much to see right here in my lifetime. So I will never need a chip or rectal scan. Just the thought gives me the eebby jeebies.

Re: Big brother at it again...!

but, with a little common sense, i don't see why we can't come up with a universal id card. i would gladly pay $200-300 for a card that is accepted everywhere. complete federal background check, fingerprint me, etc, and give me the card. acceptable everywhere.

as a general contractor that does a ton of work for the govt, it's crazy what we go through to gain access to sites. i currently have 3 different background checks ongoing to work at the state dept, opm, and another gsa managed site. all the same checks (fps is doing all 3), but each facility wants their own done. just the savings alone could pay for a new form of id.

Re: Big brother at it again...!

I'm not sure I see a problem with this... What is the difference between an RFID chip and a barcode? Nothing. Other than the fact that you don't have to wait for some dufus to sit and hold a laser to a bunch of verticle lines. With RFID, all you have to do is pass the chip within 3 inches of a RFID reader and the information on the person will get transferred to the system. I think people freak out when they read the word microchipped for all the wrong reasons. If they were putting microchips in ME, I'd be concerned.

But RFID is the way of the future. Its cheap and versatle.

Sean

Good greif guys, can anyone tell me the difference between having the info written on the passport and having that very same info on a chip in the passport?

There is ZERO difference.

Yes it can be counterfited, but it makes it much more difficult.

To quote a great song, PARANOIA WILL DESTROY YA!!!

Ken

Re: Big brother at it again...!

I am with Boomer, ee and KIZ.

If it is a step towards fulfillment of prophecy then so what? Can't stop it.

Yes, same as a bar-code, and scaling back, same as it being written down.

crabbait may be right too, but I am definitely not ready to go with that plan . . . :D

On the Boomer note. Whether you believe or not, it is odd to me that there is no public discussion about seemingly giant steps towards things predicted in the Bible. Why does no one ever mention the transitions from cash to check to credit card to ATM/Debit to on-line banking? It seems to fall right in line with a move towards a cashless society, yet there is no 20/20 segment, no article in the L.A. Times, not even a discussion on conservative radio that I have ever heard. You think this would get the conspiracy freaks babbling to themselves incessantly.

KIZ, another quote is something like "just because you're paranoid it doesn't mean people aren't watching you" . . .

I predict that food manufacturers will start putting RFID chips into food packaging. Inventories will be much more easily tracked. Instead of hand counting items on shelves a simple waive of a want locates them all.

And maybe the new metal strip in your money is for tracking it by satalite. That'll keep you from hiding cash from Uncle Sam. :D
Who Knows???????
