Hey BP, I'm going to go against the grain here.<br />Your wording is a little strong (ie Nazis), but you are correct. This reminds me of the Johnny Carson show. Remember when his guests could not even mention the name of another network while they were being inteviewed by him (on NBC)? This appears to be exactly what's happening here.<br /> I've been selling things for a long time (look at my carson reference), and one thing I can say for sure is that if you have a good product, your competition can be your best friend if you are smart enough to take advantage of them!!!

But, JDK, one fly in this ointment..iboats chose this mode of operation,.. and they are within thier rights to do so. You made the analogy of Johnny. I would like to compare it to the Boy Scouts and Fast food, who are being sued to addopt practices not in the charter they drew up. My son was taken out of Boy Scouts in 1979.<br />My grandson has never been one. This is (to me), is tragic. I was a Boy Scout, and learned a great deal there, from caring people.<br />Now, it's just one more PC organization to force young men to accept every pill they have to swallow,and march lock-step (a phrase us Nazis made popular), with gays and thier council.<br />Sad,sad,situation. Those lawyers need not register here.(well, they can, but they're barkin-up the wrong tree, unless they got boat problems).

JDK, you are correct that competition is good.<br /><br />Just look on your street corners.<br /><br />A mickey d's pops up and soon to follow is a BK or TB etc.<br /><br />But you won't find mickey d's adverts in the BK or TB and visa versa.<br /><br />iboats has company's that they are affiliated with that keeps this site going and I for one will not do anything to jeopardize that.<br /><br />There are plenty of places to sell your stuff and a lot of free places at that.<br /><br />So if you or anyone else don't like the way it's done here, go find one of them free places to advertise.<br /><br />If you do to much here, then iboats can not afford to stay online and that would be a shame and I am sure that they will not allow this to happen for me or anyone else that is a member.<br /><br />Have a nice day.

Hey, we all enjoy the forum, it does not cost us anything, as it is free, supported and paid for by iboats.com, and it does cost to set up, organise, and maintain. So, as it is free, ENJOY, AND PLAY BY THE RULES. If I was the operator, and was paying the bills you would all operate by my rules, or be gone. So we shall operate by their rules, or be GONE.

I know that iboats sets the rules and everybody needs to play by them and yada yada yada.<br /> What I'm saying is that this particular 'rule' is doing them more harm than good. <br /> I am NOT a lawyer, but they have a saying that I believe is absolutely true (and you see more and more of it everyday - note your fast food example). <br />"one lawyer practicing in a small town will live in poverty. We are pretty much on the same page then.<br />But the rules is what the rules is, subject top change without notice.<br />I re-state no affiliation with iboats.com, but<br />in the 80's and 90's, I ran a BBS (free), centering on amateur radio. If I had tried to impliment everything that was sugjested, I'd have taken the site down by shear confusion.<br />I tried to make everyone happy, while maintaining the core meaning for the board's existance in the first place. And even so, got attacked by hackers on allmost a daily basis...Summers were by far, the worst time. Kids out of school with too much time on thier hands, and no real life, attempted everything from bringing the site down in total, to cheating on one of our online games (like Trade Wars" ect).<br />I put up with this as long as there was a demand. Finally, "Burnt Ham BBS" went the way of packet radio, and I pulled the plug in Februiary of 94.<br /><br />I said all that to say, I understand the challenges of keep this site up. It takes hours of time, ka-ching in untold quanities, and a nitch. The fact that it assists in selling things, is of course, the key motivation. If it stops selling things, or people stopped coming, or both, iboats.com would be gone.<br />I understand what you are saying. "The customer is allways right". But you must temper that against giving the baby away with the bathwater too. A freebie here and there is one thing. An undercutting of your own advertisement base is quite another.<br />I wasn't angry enough to replyt to this thread on subject matter allone. What trolled me out of the rocks was the "NAZI" and "Big Brother" stuff.<br />It's definately insult to injury. And I like these people.<br />I'm blunt sometimes, and meant no feather-ruffling, other than to prevoke thought allong the lines of "then why are you here?" question to those acusing admin of being a Nazi. I stick up for my buds and allways will.<br />Luckily, JB and Admin5 are of cooler heads, and will take thier "Constructive (yeah, right) Critisism like the people they are, and may even impliment the sugjestion..Allthough ,had it been me, I woulda (and did) tell BP to leave if he don't like it.<br />I'm done. Lockin myself out of this thread, and no trolls are gettin me out of the rocks again. I said my peace.

Hey, wait a minute.....<br /><br />You guys are starting to talk a lot about "the rules." Remember my original post stated that there IS NO rule in the Terms of Use against pointing people to other sites, which was what I did. I only used the "selling things yourself" as an example of what tons of people are doing on the Forums.<br /><br />If iBoats wants to cut out all these posts with outside links and/or references and no selling things yourself, then they should just put it in the Terms of Use, and NO ONE (that's right..not even me!) would be able to argue about it.<br /><br />But...it shouldn't be an unwritten rule that is only occasionally enforced. That's what led to this whole posting.<br /><br />iBoats has the right to set up any rules they want to...they just ought to be clear and uniformly enforced. <br /><br />As JB said, I have had my say, he said "Oops" and that's that.

as a victim of misunderstood postings ...<br /><br />lol, well, ok, Ive put a little spice into my stuff now and then, but ... really now fella's ... how many CHILDREN are going to be interested in repairing boats? I was, but I was a freak with an adult brain in a childs body, lol, something I have been trying to reverse as of late, with semi-success ... <br /><br />Ive made nazi comments and the like, but in a ball busting way, not venemous, and I would never be hateful or anything like that, I love this forum, I am wholly addicted to it, and if the powers that be deem it neccessary, we have to abide by the rules<br /><br />most of the time, anyway <br /><br />Freedom Rings, but it comes with reponsibility

my opinion on this is that the moderators JB etc.. have hundreds of posts to view a day and every once in a while weed out and undesirable ( guess they missed me ) but the fact that they did that seems like they misunderstood your post
