Big bulges in deck cloth glassing work. What to do in this situation?

I had a major oops! about a month ago when glassing on csm and 6 oz woven hexel on the plywood deck.

The 1.5 oz CSM layed perfectly flat (there are no problem areas in any of the csm work.) I grabbed the 6 oz woven to roll on top of it and layed it on the CSM until I got my gloves off to smooth it out and make it perfect.

Unfortunately, I found that my hand was fiberglassed inside the resin encrusted nitrel glove and by the time I got it out the resin on the deck started to set and I couldn't get most of the large bulges in the woven out! :(

I am completely out of resin and have no funds to buy more so redoing that section of deck is impossible.

What should I do? Will I be okay to grind the bulges smooth down to the surface of the CSM and leave it? This is not a deck people will walk on and it will be covered with vinyl flooring.

I glassed the deck in 10 to 20 inch widths with 2 inch overlaps. The bulges are in only one and a half areas.

Any advise would be great. I want to take care of this before the weather here in MI changes.

I'd say you need to sand it down, and do the obvious area's again....sorry. If you just sand/grind it down, you'll probably end up seeing bare wood. You might get lucky, but never count on that.

1.5 ounce CSM is pretty thick. If you can grind out the bad stuff without penetrating to wood, you should be fine. Structurally it should be plenty, especially if it is not a walking surface.

I'd suspect you know the "right" thing is to re-do it, and be totally sure it's the best it can be.

But it's not in a structurally important spot, so really you could just fair it and paint over it and you'd be fine. You'd still have a better built boat than new.

Okay. I'll just get it smooth down to the CSM and put the vinyl floor on top next spring.

I have the cloth to do it over but can't afford more resin right now. :(
