Any G3,Grizzly,tomahawk,etc.owners out there? I need feedback. I have a 03 G3 1860sc w F90yamaha,boat wt. 900lb+/- mtr 400, baby got back! looking a new prop, current is 13 1/4 x 17 3 bld. alum. stock?prop wizard says 19 or 21 pitch 3 blade.I am intrestd in a 4 bld as I read they have advantgs such as better in turns, more bite, less cavit.and some added stern lift.boat gets on plane easily but seems to come off plane to soon. and high spd turns are vague.also i think top end could be higher {speed} I have moved mtr to #2 pos from #1 as purchased [used], cavi. plate is 3/4" +/-below keel and Im afraid to raise it higher because of the wt. & stress on the transm.Looking for more top speed and longer planeing? when slowing if possible.any 4stroke pwrd. jon boat owners out there or am i an idiot and need a 2 stroke!!??

Re: big jon boat props

There are lots of guys here that will be glad to help get you setup.
As far as raising the motor If your using the adjustment holes your not stressing the transom If you think about it as you raise the motor you sort of shorten the
leg in relation to the boat.Somewhat less leverage at the point of mount.
The higher you go the less to drag through the water. Also slightly better hole shot.
Check out the tiny tach for reasonable price and easy install. It will fit any similar 4 stroke without regard to stator poles. While it can be installed permanant it may be better as a temporary setup. Get us your prop size may be under the prop nut
your max rpm and speed by GPS if possible.remind us what you would like to accomplish.boat size and weight.Motor brand hp and max rpm rating if possible.
Raising thew motore alone may gain a couple of mph.Raise the motor a hole at a time to a point just before ventilation(cavitation)becomes a problem.

Re: big jon boat props

thanks for the replys,I forgot to mention two marine batteries and a 12 gallon plastic gas tank on the transom!! Im thinking of mounting It forward but that might cause fuel delivery problems? and take up needed storage in a 18" extenstion Ive built on the front deck. its made of 2x6 varnishd and a highway sign.its weight and cooler, anchor etc.100lbs maybe did not change perf much. when at or near Wot not much boat in the water,it seems to fight sometimes as if cavi plate is porpoising, can trim it only slightly and boat starts to porpoise even w more weight toward the bow!Im getting a tach and I think a 4blade 19pitch turningpoint ,they claim to be good for 4 strks.Tach 1st. so I can see what rpms are now,Gut tells me motor wants to overrev w the 17 ptch.
