Well I noticed there was oil in the bilge but when I pumped it out into a bucket it was about a half a quart.
I went out Friday and checked the oil before and after and it was normal. Then before I went out yes I checked it and it was good too. Then I went out for a couple hours yes and about 2 miles from the dock coming back in I looked at the oil pressure and it was very low for running at 3/4 throttle.
I slowed it down fast and I cant remember if I shut the engine off or if it died. But after it was off I checked the oil and it was low so I put more in it. The guy I bought it from said he had 10-40 Mobile 1 in it so that's what I put in it.
After I put more oil in it I tried to start it and it wouldn't start. It sounded like the battery was dead but the engine was about 210 on the temp gauge because I had shut it off so quick from 3/4 throttle. So it could be the solenoid wouldn't let it start because it was too hot.
I let it sit for about 20 mins and then it started but now there is a tapping sound. I went really slow to the dock then let it run at idle for a little while while I was getting my stuff off the boat. It sounds normal at idle but when you rev the engine there is a tapping sound. I cant tell if it is coming from the top or bottom of the engine.
I read another thread that said if I take one spark plug wire at a time off that if it is a rod the tapping will stop, but if its a lifter the tapping will still go on.
Is this a good thing to try now. Any body have any idea whats going on?
I'm gonna buy some of that material that soaks up oil and clean the bilge and lay it down and try to see where the oil is coming form.
