Hey guys,
I am in a bit of a pinch.... I have family in town visiting to do some fishing and my 2000 Johnson 50 hp went down this afternoon. I was running when I heard a bang only to be followed by a grinding noise. Then I notice that I wasn't spitting any water and the boat wasn't moving. I got her home and drained the lower unit but everything looked fine, no metal. It will start, but it grinds and will not go into gear. Is this something I could expose or does it need to go in? I have been looking for a reason to get an E-Tec so this may do it!
Thanks for your help <*))))><

Yes, take off the lower end. Make sure it starts and runs (no grinding with the lower end off) . Do NOT run more than 20 secs without water!
Last time I heard a bang and a grind was a busted driveshaft......
