I have a DURA CRAFT 152W Fisherman series johnboat with a 1992 15hp Gamefisher. The boat will just make plane wot. I am thinking of putting a 1959 35hp Johnson Sea Horse on boat,this is sitting on a 14'EBB Tide. I really have 2 questions. 1- is this to much motor for this boat,(weight/size). I cannot find a data plate on boat.2- this is a remote control motor, how hard would it be to install stick control or to install a tiller handle if I can find one. It looks as if it could have had one from factory.Any help would be appreciated.
Tired of being able to swim faster than boat runs.

On most mid range outboards the tiller is available as a kit, many are manufactured with the "kit" installed. The kit for my '96 40HP Evinrude was about $400. You may be able to find the parts you need from a scrapyard.

Baitkiller;

I take it you want to plane easier and run a bit faster? My first thought is that you should re-think trading off to a much older motor - reliability comes to mind. Next, I don't think it is a good idea spending too much to re-rig an old motor. Second, the bow up problem, the minimum on plane speed, and general handling may be more than you are expecting because of the extra weight. The old motors were heavey.

What is it that you would raly like from the boat the way it is now? I have delt with many underpowered boats in Europe where gas is $7.00 per gallon.

hello
it will run like a bat outta hades. the fuel consumption of the motor is poor but no worries.that motor is easy to convert to tiller. most older 59 to abot 71 or so 33 28 or 40 tiller will work. buy a compleate non running cheap and rob the parts. I ran a 59 35 on my 14 ft 6ftbeam voyager aluminium jon for years also ran a 70 model 33. boat will fly. almost scary
if your alone place a cooler full of sand in the bow.
post me if I can help
I may still have some tiller parts about
Good luck and try to find a compleat motor to borrow from.

Re: bigger moter for boat

Thanks for the input everybody. nautiJohn, I am just wanting to get to fishing holes a little faster. I do most of my fishing on Santee - Cooper lakes and Santee river here in South Carolina and often run for several miles to get to spots. mostly cat&striper fishing. I could change landings but am used to where I put in at now.Also the 15hp gamefisher just barely gets boat on top of water and any wakes or waves seem to make boat wallow really bad. Just doesn,t feel save some times.But I am concerned about the extra weight that is why I thought about the stick steer to put my big but up front.
rodbolt, thanks for input. I don,t fish alone have had a couple of friends that fished alone and didn,t come back. I used to but stopped after losing them, and my better half laid her law down. Again guys thanks for input, I love checking this site.
