hi everyone. just wondering if anyone has some experiance with a descent stereo system in the boat. i just finished rebuilding my boat and i have 4 alpine 6x9's and 2 12" type r subs to install. i used to have this equipment in my truck. now im not sure about the charging system on my 85hp force. i think my 1000 watt amp will probably cook the charging system. i even am considering getting a small 1200 watt generator just for the tunes. anyone have any ideas. thanks

Re: bigger stereo

Rather than do a generator I'd get a couple of big deep cycle batteries and run the stereo off of them isolated from the boat's charging system. Then when you get home just charge the batteries.

I'd expect about 5 hours running time wide open like that. Chances are though that will be enough time for you given that you won't blast it that loud all day...

I guess that's another body of water to avoid.

Your amp should not cook the charging system so long as it is properly grounded.

Carefull with those R Types (good subs, had a few in one of my cars), they are not marine subs though, the voice coils are not sealed and can get moisture inside and lock up, also the terminals and spider are not insulate against the shock/vibration boats produce.

As for power reserve, either use a large isolated battery or install a few full frad capacitors. I have two 10" Kenwood Marine DVC's on independant amps and 6 Pioneer crossovers on my boat and it pounds pretty good.

relax man. i live on a lake with only 3 other houses. all three couples party just as hard if not harder. there is no way on the lake except for our launches so you wouldnt get on even if you wanted to.

take a pill.

Damn...four 6x9s and two subwoofers sounds like itll produce plenty...Making me want to upgrade my highs now. Do the 6x9s run off the amp or the head unit? I plan on only using two 6x9s and running to the head unit if possible.

You won't fry the charging system but the charging system on that 85 hp force probably isn't putting out much over 10 amps at wide open, probably nothing at an idle where as your car was dumping 75-100 amps back into the battery.. I suggest you follow overdrive's advice and put 1 or 2 deep cycles wired in parallel. Don't connect them to the charging system via a switch just throw them on the charger every time you come back in. It would take a very long time at wide open throttle to recharge a discharged deep cycle with that outboard.
