I just ahd the trim motor go out on a Volvo 4.3 SXA 1.79. I could not believe it but they wont sell you just the electric motor (a little bigger than an electric fuel pump motor) rather they make you buy the whole trim system: motor, pump, gasket, plastic cover and all hydraulic lines as a unit!!! for anywhere from $767 (ebay) to $1900!!!! at a dealer. You dont need anything more than a $1.50 set of electric motor brushes in a ten dollar Chinese 12v motor!! I took it to an electric motor and starter shop that rebuild these motors all the time and because Volvo doesn't provide support thay cant find any service parts, e.g brushes, bearings etc. I was told by a certified I/O mechanic that these motors fail all the time becasue of the brushes.

It doesn't make sense that they need Volvo parts to rebuild the motor. That a place that changes parts. When we strip motor's at work we match the bearing number or measure and match the bearing/seals same goes for brush's. If we can not fix it we send it to a shop that will make any parts they can not find.

I recently took my trim pump apart and cleaned it out to fix a leak down issue. When I was reading up on the pump, I read somewhere that the motor is a starter motor, I think it was a Tecumseh motor. I just found it, here is the link, post 13. Trim Pump woes

Tecumseh went out of business a long time ago. They sold off the motor specific stuff to LCT and the electrics division just died.

the pump is an oildyne, which is parker. any valid motor/starter/alternator rebuild shop can rebuild them cheep.
