There is a (drain)hole on the bow side of the bilge area which is at the lowest part in the back of the boat. I assume it is a drain for water getting underneath the deck from anywhere. I saw some water present after a long drive so I decided to put a shop vac to the hole. The wall on one side of this hole lived caved in immediately with little force from the shop vac hose. I was able to hold it so the suction was sealed and it would suck anything out of the hole this time. I pulled about 3 gallons of water from this drain hole this time.
Doing this a third time today, I got some remnants of what used to be wood? with four or five gallons of water. It was a 4 inch piece of soft wood. I assume the worst that the stringers and everything under the deck is gone but the deck is not soft anywhere. At this point, I don't know what I should do. The transom is solid all the way around it seems. Where the motor is and everywhere is not soft and shows no sign of rot except down there. The boat doesn't shake when under power either.
I bought the boat a few months ago and am wondering if the pieces of rotted wood in the gallons of water pulled from the boat's drain hole, and side of bow side bilge drain wall being soft is evidence of something that needs attention or is a reason for me to get this boat off my hands asap. If it is something that needs repair, what do you think it may be/cost for repair?
