I was looking at some dry rot where my blower vents are located. There are two 3 inch thru holes on each side at the back of my boat that goes into a one cubic foot enclosed area that has an aluminum vented cover on the top of this enclosure. In this little enclosure the boat manufacturer, Powerquest, placed two pieces of 3/8 " thick plywood, one mounted vertically where the blower vents terminate and one piece on the horizontal floor area. Both pieces were completed dry rotted. Because of the design of this enclosure and the previous owner leaving theses vents uncovered mother nature took its toll. I was able to remove all of the plywood leaving me with a very thin covering of fiberglass. I was thinking of just replacing the rotted plywood with new plywood but then I thought it might be better if I just lay down 5 or 6 layers of fiberglass and then but down several coats of white epoxy resin. There is a small hole on the floor to drain any water that might get into this enclosure. Going the fiberglass route over the plywood makes more sense unless there is a reason why they used the plywood?

Re: Bilge Blower Vents

Probably just a form for the fiberglass.

Now that you have the form.. you dont need the wood.
