I have a new to me Ouachita 12 foot aluminum boat and the bilge plug has been sitting out in the weather and it is shot. Is there a standard size? The plug I have it attached to the boat so I don't have it with me(its at the lake) and I need to pick something up.

Thanks

Scott

They are all about the same size, Wal-mart brass a couple of dollars, Bass Pro stainless steel a little more.

2 types of plugs......one is a NPT (National pipe tap) available at any harware store. the other is a straight-thread with o-ring.

Humm...two answers for two different types of plugs. Bloodhound, do you have the screw in type or the one with the expandable rubber that tightens when you flip the lever? I'm thinking the latter.

Yes it is the compression rubber type. I went to a local store at lunch and they had the stainless and the brass versions for $7.99 so I got the brass and will replace the old one on the chain that is attached to the support on the transom. I had a boat 18 years ago, a 14 foot fishing boat, but I bought it from a guy who used it every weekend and it was "Turn Key". This new/old boat has been sitting and will need some TLC, but I wanted to make sure we didn't have major leaks or....

Thanks again

Even the rubber plugs come in 3 sizes that I know of, 1/2" 5/8" and 1"

I lucked out and the plug I got at Bass Pro fit and worked like a charm. Had the boat out on the lake for a little over an hour, on the first splash. Not a drop of water on the deck...ok I dripped some water, but none from any obvious leaks. It looks solid. It was great other than I was using the oars and I have never used oars before so it was a learning experience. I have a large electric trolling motor to use, but didn't use it this weekend...next weekend for sure.

Thanks again for the guidance.

I will hop over to the restoration threads for some other questions and will post up some photos.
