I have a Glastron 17ft bowrider with a switch near the transom that I was told is the bilge pump. I see a large hose coming out from that area, but when I turn on the switch I hear nothing. Does the bilge come on only when there is water there or is there a problem and how do I check. Please any advice would be appreciated.

If it has a manual switch & you switch it on & no sound its not working!
Check for blown fuse 1st-
Trace wires down & if not fused check to be sure switch is good-
If you can get to all easy wire pump direct to battery to see if pump is good-

A lot depends on how the pump is set up. There is no set pattern for installation of the pumps.

Normally the pump is set to work on both a manual switch and an automatic "float" switch. Then there are different types of "float" switches; mechanical types, computer controlled sensors, and electrical sensors.

The pumps have 3 wires coming from them; brown wire for manual switch, brn/white for the automatic, and black for ground.

You need to get to the pump so that you can determine how it has been installed.

The safest method is to have both the manual override and the automatic system in place.

Can't hear mine unless all is quiet and I'm really tuned in to it. I know it works due to a forgotten plug.

Recently my bildge pump stopped working. I took the motor out of the housing and found the impeller was seized. I turned it a little by hand and it moved freely. Installed it back in the housing and it worked fine. If they don't get used often I guess the impeller can seize. Give this a try and see if it works.
