I had a old V series attwood bilge pump on a boat that i just bought like a few weeks ago. Never been in the water yet. I just bought a tsunami t800 bilge pump as a replacement for the V625 one. My question is can the bilge pump just work without the bilge pump because i couldnt find the old one on the boat or it didnt had one. Does matter with the float switch or no? Can i just run it only by the pump it self?

If you don't have a float switch, it would be a little less insurance if it took on water and you were not aware of it, like parked at a dock, filling with rain or forgetting to put the plug in. There are alot of boats with manual only pumps I'm sure.

Sure you can run it without the switch. The real question is WHY wouldn't you want a float swith? Especially if you are already replacing the pump.

Really no doubt, go with the flotation switch. As said above, cheap insurance.

...and another vote for the float switch!!!

Last summer I noticed the bilge pump automatically coming on about every twenty minutes. After trailering I found a defective shift cable bellows. Hey, I could have taken on a boat load of water WITHOUT the float switch.
Repeating previous replies....cheap insurance.

Float switch for sure. Always on when I am docked at the marina and going home. Gives you peace of mind.

Another plug for the float switch. I was about 3 hrs from home and hit major rain. I normally take the plug out when I head for home but forgot this time. I noticed the boat was getting a little harder to pull and I realized what was happening. I had taken on a lot of water. That simple little switch would have prevented that. Lucky no harm done.

Why not just add the second pump and a float switch for it and keep the 625 as a manual switched pump? The plumbing kit and through hull fittings are cheap.
It never hurts to have a second pump..:)
