Bilge Pump wiring

Larson Hampton 220 - Auto bilge pump in the cabin started running constantly. There is a rocker switch on the console that controls the pump in the engine compartment. But to my knowledge the cabin pump was/is auto with the built in float switch and doesn't run off the console switch but maybe I'm wrong because now the LED on the switch is lit constantly whether the switch is on or not.

When I looked at the auto pump there were three wires at the pump, two connected and one loose, it appeared one of the wires had failed at the splice. I pulled the pump, checked the float with an ohm meter and switch seems fine. Two of the wires are black, one is black with white stripe.

I had to splice an extension on the wire the failed in order to have enough length to wire to the pump. So from the boat it appears I have two hots and a ground. The black wire with white stripe is 12v ... the black white that now has a white extension is also 12V and the other black is ground.

At the pump I have a black white with white stripe and one short black wire and one longer black wire.
Float switch appears to be the longer black wire - Meter connected between two blacks and switch toggles the circuit. Meter between long black and black w/white wire and switch toggles the circuit. .

I can't get the pump to toggle with the float switch, I can get the pump to run constantly but not triggered from the switch. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim

This is how I think you would be wired, and just replace the alarm with LED
