bilge pumps

I have a 1987 renken with a 4.3l omc, wanting to know how to test the bilge pumps

Get a hose and put water in your bilge where the pump is located with the pump turned on.

Well, spray some water in the bilge with a hose, then flip the pump switch and see if it comes on. Water depth has to cover the pump inlet completely.

thanks guys, in the i/o where would the bilge pump be, is it below the engine compartment

The pickup should be at the lowest point in the engine compartment.

Find the thru-hull fitting on the side of the boat at the stern, open the engine compartment and locate that fitting. There will be a hose (about 1-1/8" dia) usually white, connected to that fitting. Now trace the hose - the other end is connected to your bilge pump.
