bilge question

I am a new to me owner of what I believe is a 1970 Glastron V 176. I have replaced the floors. Still need to recarpet it, re cover the seats and check out a couple other things, but I have a question. I don't see a bilge pump in the boat. There is an area in the back that appears to be circular in shape but is filled with foam(actually has two empty cans stuck in it) could this be a bilge area? Do I need to just remove that foam? Any advice would be great

Re: bilge question

Hi I had a 1972 glasston v162 and it also had no pump and no spot to put it so when I redid my floors I put in the back with a small inspection hatch.

Inside hole.jpgOutside.jpg Here are the two pictures, the one on the outside shows the only hole that I can find, that hole leads into the "well" on the inside. I pulled out the foam that was in there. It was added later. home someone can tell me what this is.

Any ideas what this is and should I have a bilge pump in here?

Re: bilge question

Hey Chrism,

Looks like the bilge area to me. I've got something similar on mine. Not sure what you'll choose to do... but I'm going to mount a bilge pump to the side of the stringer down in the hole. Then I'll run the hose up and out to the side of the boat where I'll cut a hole and attach it.

I guess a bilge pump is optional :) but I'm going to have one. I had one on my last boat and I was glad it was there.

Re: bilge question

Do you have any pics of your deck (floor) replacement job?

Looks to me like you have the typical deck drain for that type of boat and not an actual bilge drain, can you take a pic from further back so we can see the stern/transom layout of your boat?

If you put a bilge pump im there be sure not to block your through transom drain.

Re: bilge question

I will post pics when I can. Looks like you are right just a drain. So instead of spending 3 bucks on a plug he spent 10 on foam and o seal it up
