bilgepump wireing

i am replaceing a pump with a flot switch the pump has 2 wires black,brown and the flot switch with 2 wires put the main wire comeing in has 3 wires black,brown,red thare is a main switch also for on and off i forgot how the wireing went i took the old one out at the end of last year can some one HELP

one wire from the switch (pump on) will go direct to the pump, one wire from the switch (auto) will go to the float switch the other wire from the switch will go to the pump (same as from pump on wire) the other wire from the pump will go to the ground on the battery. Bass Runner is correct. You need to make sure whether the black or the red of your three wire main feed is the switched one (probably the red). To find out, with the switch off, put any 12 volt device (or a multimeter if you have one)between the the brown (ground) wire and the black wire then the red. Which ever one turns on the device is the "always on positive feed". This one goes to the float switch. The brown goes to the brown on the pump. The switched positive feed and the other wire from the float switch are both jumpered together with the black wire from the pump.
