Bimini, aerodynamics, and exhaust fumes

I installed a 6' (long) bimini top on my 17' Four Winns bowrider. I was so happy with having that much shade, especially when it's 92 degrees and high noon. No more sweltering under a blazing sun while fishing.

However, the wife doesn't like it because she says the exhaust fumes are stronger now and making her ill. I wouldn't have thought that a bimini top that is a high enough to give you a foot overhead clearance while you are standing and that is installed parallel to the rub rail would create an eddie in the rear of the boat. It seemed to be strongest while we were going slowly. It may have been that we were going downwind the same speed as the wind, but I didn't make a mental note of that. I will today.

Anyone else have this same problem?

I know of other boaters that have had that problems. I keep the blower turned on at low speed. You are also right that the direction of the wind can cause this as well.

I would check to make sure everything is operating correctly with the boat motor to make sure are no exhaust leaks as well.

I don't see how this is very likely but you could try changing the angle of the top. If it is too high in the rear it could create air dam effect and cause a small vacuum behind it sucking in fumes.
