black streaks below my mooring covers

I waxed this area, twice, and still get these tough to remove black streaks. What are they and how do I prevent them?

It's the grime left from runoff after it rains.
I've found the best (but NOT easiest) way to keep them from appearing is to thoroughly clean, wax, then power buff the hull. When I do that I don't get any black streaks for a couple years. My wax of choice is 3M Marine Wax.
The power buffing seems to seal the tiny pores in the fiberglass. It's a LOT of effort but it always works for me.

thanks. What exactly is power buffing? Do you mean by using a waxing wheel? I do that. Thx.

No, a buffer is much heavier-duty than a waxing wheel.
I use a 9" Black and Decker BuffMaster, but they aren't made anymore. The Dewalt DW849 is similar.

I use 3M "Perfect-It" foam pads. Excellent results.

Barkeepers helper works then a little wax, or move to north dakota where there isn't so much pollution.

i bought some "Black Streak Remover" cleaner at the local Boating store. it works pretty good to remove 90% of the stain.

Hi,

Got the same problem on the French Riviera. Do you think it comes from the morning dew, light rains or heavy rains?
Do you have an airport nearby?
I limited with sponges around the scuppers areas. It only last a while but helps. Where are you docked?
