Re: bleeding the tilt&trim
If there is air in the lines, the tilt cylinder will be "mushy" instead of firm.
If you can not get it to move, there may be two problems-- You probably have foamed the oil. Once this happens, tilt will go nowhere. Let it sit a while to allow the air to leave the fluid, then top off the reservoir. Next, if the engine is tilted all the way up, sometimes they get stuck there. So push on the engine leg to see if you can't get it to move down a little. Then try the tilt again. You need to push hard, hard enough to work the release valves, but not excessively so--If the pressure relief valving is stuck or set too high, the mechanical and hydraulic advantage is so great, that excessive force on the engine leg will blow off the pentagon cap of the trim cylinder. It's quite dramatic when that happens--Bang! The engine drops immediately and hydraulic oil gets all over the place.
There is no special bleeding procedure--just cycle the unit up and down a few times and top off the oil.
