Blew Engine, rebuild or replace??? Please Help.

I have a 200 HP Evinrude 1997 Ocean Pro (carbed fuel sucking monster) that the crankcase wall has a hole in. At first my decision was to rebuild what I have. After pulling the motor this weekend, I have other reservations and now am thinking about just replacing with a EFI or DFI. I could part mine out to offset the costs of the replacement motor. Here are my questions:
1) What would you do. $1500 in parts to rebuild or about $3k for used motor (EFI or would have to get good deal on DFI)?

2) How much could I get for mine in parts selling the main components on Ebay? Everything is good except the crankcase and the pistons seem worn. I would be selling as follows: carbs w/manifold, lower unit, power pack, coils (each), transom bracket, tilt/trim assembly, pivot bracket (think steering connects to) with midsection, heads, crank, rods, flywheel, stator, oil tank, starter, fuel pump.

Thanks.

Seems like a common problem on these engines. I too also have a 200 HP Vindicator that melted a psiton and cracked the block--I suspect that you would be better off parting the engine and buying a newer one. There is no answer as to what you can get for parts on the auction. Parts sell for no apparent reason or rime on ebay. You may get a lot--more than they are worth-- or you may get almost nothing. Depends upon the demand.

I found a 1999 Suzuki 200 EFI for $2500, with prop, harness, gauge, extra parts motor, extra lower unit. This engine is very nice. Should I buy this and part my other out?

Got her apart. Here is what I found:

-My theory as to what happened was right on. #2 piston skirt broke in many pieces and threw a piece into rod end.

-crank = good
-crankcase = very bad, I found 2 other places where the same hole happened in #5 rod end area and they welded a patch and put J/B weld like stuff on the inside of the patch to smooth it out.
-block = bad, #2 cylinder scored bad at bottom. (i did not see with the heads off looking from outside). The bad news is that this block has already been bored .020 over. No more room to bore again to fix #2 unless I resleeve. It won't be worth resleeving with the other issues it has
-pistons = 5 good, 1 bad with broken skirt missing wrist pin clips (this may have caused it)
-rings = 6 good
-rods = 6 good
-rod bearings = 6 good
-wrist pin bearings = all bad, what a joke, #2 cage disentegrated, different looking bearings in some pistons, missing thrust washers in 1/2 the pistons
-main bearings = good

Somebody obviously rebuilt this thing and did a crappy job. that is evident with the wrist piin bearings and thrust washer missing. some don't even look right. The block is toast it is going in the garbage. I am going to part her out and buy another used engine. It does not make economic sense to rebuild this one. We are talking minimum $1500 in parts to rebuild and I should be able to find an 10 year old EFI used for $2500. With about $1000 worth of parts off mine, my net would be $1500. So in the end it will cost me $1500 to rebuild or $1500 (net) to buy a used motor that is newer and better. This is a no brainer now. I have made my decision to buy another engine.
