Call me crazy but for some reason I recall there is someone on this board from Bloomington, IN. I'm thinking about buying Mrs. Eeboater tickets to Mama Mia next April for Christmas. But, the closest the show is getting to the Milwaukee area is in the Indiana University Auditorium in Bloomington.

Couple questions...

How is that theater?
Have you been to a show in it?
What else is there in Bloomington?

I'm thinking we'll drive down on Friday, go to the show on Saturday and return on Sunday.

Sean

good size place, been to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Becareful when driving around Bloomington, there are lots and lots of eye candy, you'll either wreck your car or get smack by the mrs. for looking. :D If spending the night, look up the Blue Bird bar, have great live music. John Mellencamp is notorious for just popping up in there and play since he live in town. If time permits, take your boat with you cause Monroe reservoir(largest in the state) is in Bloomington (10 minutes from campus) and the fishing is red hot right now since they draw down the water 3-4ft for maintenance.

If it helps I live close to Bloomington Nebraska? Not much chance of a show there unless bar fights count. Population 350.

Re: Bloomington, IN...

My brother goes to IU, and Bloomington, as KaGee said, IS IU. Since it's a college town, it is pretty much a departure from the "midwesterny" feel of Indiana. It's kind of off the beaten path (if there is such a thing in IN), and if you're coming in from I-65 at Columbus, you'll pass through the thriving metropoli(?) of Nashville, Gnaw Bone, and Stony Lonesome. Apparently Nashville is a bit of a touristy trap type place, but I've never stopped there. Monroe Lake, nearby, looks like it would be a great place to boat, sail, or fish, though I've never been on it, I'd like to one day...you could always just drive to Monroe to drive on the bridge that's just above water level, with lake on both sides, I get a kick out of it for some reason.

I'll ask my brother what there is to do in Bloomington. He'll probably come up with some music related activities since he's in the music program at IU.

It's the drive though version of a ^^ BUMP. :p

Hey EE... One thing I did forget... IU has been in the limelight the last two years because of the dorm-porn scandal. But, somehow I don't think Ms. EE would appreciate you visiting the dorms! :D

Re: Bloomington, IN...

It is mine, in a sense....

I'm a Sea Scout leader, and that's the primary training vessel for our unit. I'm second in command on board. The boat is a 95 foot former Coast Guard cutter (ex Cape Jellison). It is entirely crewed by young men aged 14-18 under the supervision of adult leaders like myself. We acquired it in February of this year as a replacement for our 82 foot former CG cutter. We run all over the SF bay and delta, and every now and then off the coast of CA. Our website is http://www.ship145.org (shameless plug) :)

(Bloomington info still forthcoming)

Re: Bloomington, IN...

Hi, ee,
I'm pretty new here, but I see a few other people from Indiana. I live in Indy, and Lake Monroe is where we go quite often. It's pretty nice, mostly wooded, a few good campgrounds, some sites on the water.

As another poster mentioned, John Mellencamp has a place on the lake.

It's over 10,000 acres, so as a result, some big (to me) boats can be found here; I've seen a triple engine Baja, 42-ft, I think...a couple Carvers, Fountain, etc.
Gets a little choppy on a weekend afternoon!

As for Bloomington itself, the above posters are correct, strictly a college town. I have a daughter at IU.

BTW, she told me not to drive around those parts with a "W 04" sticker on my truck...might get keyed. But I have to brag that she was one of the probably five or so voters for Bush in Bloomington in '04.
And 20 yrs old!

LOL

Have a nice time in our state, and take advantage of the lake and some Hoosier hospitality, if you can!

Re: Bloomington, IN...

I spoke to my brother about Bloomington. He says April is one of the best times to visit because it's very pretty and relaxing. Lake Monroe is one of the bigger attractions, second to IU. You can get just about any type of good food you want, and the music school at IU (one of the best in the country, but he's biased...he goes there) is constantly putting on performances. IU is also heavily athletic and there will probably be some kind of sporting event to see. He also noted the prime T&A, but being a trip for your wife, you might not want to specifically pen that into the sightseeing schedule. I enjoy the drives on the back, curvy roads surrounding the town. My Dad lives in Seymour about an hour away (the "Small Town" of Mellencamp fame) so it makes for a nice drive through the woods (this of course from an easily amused city guy).
