Blowing a Fuse

Good day,

I have a 1991 200GT Johnson that keeps blowing a fuse that is housed in a red casing. It will blow after the motor is shut off, or when you trim the engine at any point when running. Now when I placed a new fuse in the housing, even with the key out of the ignition, it tries to trim the motor. Any suggestions how to trouble shoot?

Thanks,

DZ.

I'd guess that one of the trim relays is shorted. Hopefully. It could be in the wiring. I'd try 2 new relays and see what happens.

You have a short and I would try Dhadley's suggestion. You could trace down the short if you are good with electrical test equipment.

Good luck

Remove the relays and try a new fuse. If it still blows, the relays are ok and the problem is in the wiring to them (trim harness). If not, insert one relay and try again. If it now blows, try the other relay. If it blows again its NOT the relays but in the wiring beyond them.
