I have just purchased an 86 bayliner 1900 capri in near perfect condition, however the owner before me repowered it with a black max 175 (boat info on passenger inside clearly states 125 hp) haha . anyway he ran the motor on straight fuel and blew the motor to the bad place. The whole boat was redone, all interior , everything its really nice sound floor, no real issues knock on wood (except motor shot). I purchased it with the intention of putting my mercury 1976 model 850 on the boat. I know this will be minimal power for this 1500 pound boat, my question is. I want to know if i can use the mercury black max control box and linkage etc with my 850. or will i need to use the linkage from my old boat that the 850 was on.

if its the old style rubber plug it will probably work, if not there may be adapters? If your capri is like my 88 1700 you will need to put about a 2x4 thickness on top of transom before putting the 850 on, the cavitation plate needs to be about 2-3 inches above bottom of v.

40 mph is about it with my 17 ft with the merc 850 and 17 pitch. prop and the rpm's are a little low at 4800.
