Brief History: I bought a used 1996 Century with a 200 Yamaha (carbureted) back in 99. I was naive and did dot have the motor checked out. I went on reputation alone. Mistake 1, motor lasted 6 months. Much wiser, I decided to purchase a new 2000 Yamaha OX-22 SWII 200(hp) SN=6G6-X-000420. I'm a recreational boater and don't put many hours on the motor (no hour meter). I recently had problems where the motor would shut off at full speed only to restart again right away. I took the motor in and the problem was a fuel relay switch. I used a factor authorized rep to look at the motor, and he ran a full diagnostic. He found nothing wrong (other than the switch). I used the boat two more times (all day fishing trips) with no problems, motor ran perfect. The third time I used the boat, the motor fired up, I idled of the trailer, drifter away from the dock and gave it full throttle. I heard a laud pop, and the motor was locked. I was told that I lost the No. 3 and 4 cylinders. My questions is after doing everything right with this motor, I have the yearly maintenance records plus the fact that the motor was recently checked out, what would have caused this catastrophic problem. I'm still paying for this motor, and couldn't afford the extended warranty. I guess I'm paying anyway. I'm simply shocked that Yamaha has the reputation they do. Based on my experience, I would not buy other one. Can I expect Yamaha to do anything about the blown power head?
