Blowoff Valve Cover

During start up, I noticed water coming from the area of the blowoff valve cover. Sure enough when I pulled it, there was a hairline crack in it. Question is: The new part came without a gasket and when I placed the new one on, I was still losing water from the area where it bolts to the manifold. Should there be a factory gasket? I had extensive work done to the motor last year and I am wondering if the mechanic forgot to put one back on when he hooked it back up.
Also, should the rubber plug be snapped into the housing of the valve cover or float freely from the spring?
Thanks

Re: Blowoff Valve Cover

It uses no gasket and installs like so: cover, spring, valve and seal. The seal is marked to face valve and should extend from cover about a 1/8 inch,as when tighted the seal makes the gasket.

Re: Blowoff Valve Cover

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I have it inserted properly. Trouble is I am still getting a steady stream of water from that area where the plastic housing meets the engine. I have the two bolts fairly tight (Dont want to tork down on them too much for fear of cracking the plastic) and its still leaking. Any suggestions on why it may be leaking water from that area?

Re: Blowoff Valve Cover

For closure purposes and the thought that this may help someone else:
I discovered some minor pitting in the metal around the area that the valve cover met the engine. I used some high temp gasket goop and it now seems to be holding well. Hope this helps someone that may have/had the same problem.
