Blue lower unit? Part Number? Year? HP?

I have a blue lower unit I purchased off of Ebay. The bolts, drive shaft, shifting rod, and water tube match up. Everypart I have bought for my 93 Force 40 hp works on this lower unit. The only problem is, it is blue for starters, I do not know what year, or hp this unit came from. It does not match up perfectly. Above the exhaust snorkle where the lower unit meets up with the engine body there is metal exposed. By this I mean that the upper portion has excess metal, that the lower unit does not match up to. The lower unit installs perfectly, with no risk to the seals.
If anyone has any clue as to what exactly this unit is to I would appreciate it. Also is there anywhere I can pull a part number off of the lower unit.

Without seeing it it is hard to tell. Force engines were dark blue in the eighties when they were owned by US Marine.

Taking a closer look, it looks like it might be light blue, that was painted over white paint.

Force engines were never white, as far as I know.

A picture is worth a thousand words.

DHP,

Now that I rethink this, you're right. d:)

The old (white) Chryslers were rebadged as Force for a few short years. US Marine then put new cowls (lower and upper) on them and went to the dark blue color. They may have also redesigned the exhaust tower which would explain the slight misfit.

He may have an older Chrysler/Force lower unit.

It may work just fine. It sounds like all the vitals line up.

The lower unit did work fine, I had the boat out on the water. Turns out the larger exhaust tower was a merc tweak. I perfromed a gear ratio test, and based on what Seloc has printed, my lower unit is from a late 80s early 90s 50 hp engine. Lucky for me, the 93 merc force 40 hp, and the earlier 50 hp have the same gear ratio, actually they use te same gears.
Thanks for all the responses.
