Boat alarm...

OK, here's the situation. When I run my boat (20' Aquasport) if I hit some waves, or while I'm on plane, or if I corner sharply the hoern starts to chirp. Not loudly mind you, but it chirps. Once I have the boat back level, the chirping stops after a bit. I just bought a new horn thinking it was defective ($95.00 later) and now it still chirps. The engine (95 Evinrude Vindicator 200) doesn't show any signs of overheating and runs well. I had a small crack in the fuel line a week ago and fixed that so it can't be sensing fuel smell and I don't smell fuel in the cabin. So, is there really a problem that I can't find, or is the problem electrical, or perhaps a bad sensor that the horn is attached to?

Re: Boat alarm...

Chirping needs defining. Solid beeep is temp. Repetitive intermittent beep is oil reservoir low. Both cause horn to sound at full volume.

A short in the wiring or a bad sensor could cause peculiar. May have to get a manual to see where the wires are, but you probably will need to start disconnecting wires to get to the one that stops the noise. Then it's just a matter of troubleshooting that circuit.

Re: Boat alarm...

Hey Mark,

Thanks for the reply! I don't think it's my oil reservoir since the oil is mixed in the gas. It chirps, then stops again and won't chirp at all if I am going slow. I think it's a bad connection somewhere and I'll be tackling that tomorrow!

Re: Boat alarm...

First of all, thanks for replying! I did fix it today. The problem was that the horn was flopping around and not mounted properly on the boat. So, when it got knocked around it would vhirp alot. After I mounted it today, all was good!
