Can anyone sugest a good public boat auction?

I'm planning to buy a power boat this season, something that's 2-4 years old (it wouldn't be a problem if there is something that needs to be fixed) and i'm trying to find some public boat liquidation auctions. I can travel around 1000 miles from detroit. I've tried ebay, but it doesn't look like you can find any good deals there - people forget to say something important about their boats each time, and i drove a few times all the way to Florida, but both times it turned out that seller wasn't honest enough.

If anyone knows any auctions, please email me a link to their website or their phone numbers.
Appreciate your help, Alex

sergei@web-creating.com

I bought a boat from US Auctions on ebay a bit over a year ago, Alexie.

Then called BrokenBoat, they told me everything and in the end it was a better boat than I expected.

Try a search for US Auctions.

Good luck. :)

You really have to know what you are doing even if you find an auction with plenty of boats. Some years ago I went to the Federal GSA auction in Titisville Fla. They had a ton of cars and a couple of real nice boats. There was one I would sort of like to have in the driveway so I decided to bid. When they got to it and the bidding started, the bidders got into a feeding frenzy before I got started. It went for far more than it was worth.

I just bought my rig from yachtactions.com about 3 weeks ago. they have offices in florida and california.

they only deal with bank repos, and inventory is limited and the auction is sealed bid.

I bought mine sight unseen and was under the money enoufgh and trusted them enoufgh to take the risk.the trust was a gut instinct and because they deal in a lot of upper end boats.

I drove 4200 miles to pick it up and let me tell you from my dealings with them i have nothing but praises for them for many reasons #1 of witch is i feel i got a steal of a deal figure they saved me 4-5k.

I am not telling you to buy a boat unseen and without checking value i am telling you to check this sight out and feel free to ask me any questions. one happy customer

JB hope this is appropriate if not let me know and i will not do it again

Auctions can be a great deal, but they are not an exact science.
I went to one a few years ago, at a factory that was closing, to buy a specific boat, which they had six of in various stages of being completed.

I checked them over, and decided on one that needed the most work, since it would no doubt be the cheapest, but it was all work I knew I could do. It sold last. It went for the highest price of any of them, and almost what you could get one for on a dealer's showroom floor.
I didn't buy it.

I am sure you can get good deals at auctions, but you have to be careful. And frankly I have always done reasonably well negotiating a price on a boat I wanted with a willing seller.

Good luck!

Travis Boating Center in Little Rock Arkansas is having a boat auction either this weekend or next. Phone # 501-565-3401 advertised as 300 boats for auction, many new bass boats and ski rigs... give them a call Knob

National Liquidators is a legit operation. They process deals for various courts and law enforcement. From my my experience, they are one of the few major bank repo operations, boats end up there from all over.

That being said, keep in mind that these boats are repos. Consider the TLC given by an owner who would: 1) get the the thing repo'd in the first place. 2) know darn well that repossession was imminent.

Much of what is there was pretty well beaten up. Many of the brands (I am into saltwater fishing boats) are not from the top tier manufacturers. Many boats will have had the electronics removed. Some will have had the tee top or wakeboard tower removed. The motor, lol? Make sure the boat was not sunk or otherwise devalued (no insurance) and the owner decided to stop making payments.

There are occasionally really nice specimens to be had. Be flexible and ready to jump on the right deal should it come. They always have lots of inventory. 95% will be in FL.

The "brokers" there will answer objective questions accurately. They will not lie to you. However, they will not offer up things you probably ought to know. Also, their subjective opinions may be a bit more rosey that yours or mine.

You really need to know boats and what to look for prior to purchasing this way. For a first boat, probably better served looking on the local used market.

Good luck.

jocko
