Now that I have your attention! Quick question. Thinking of back to back seats but they sit too high. Can I cut the 12"high base down? I don't have the seats so I don't know how they secure to boat. I don't know if they typically are secured through seperate brackets or through the base bottom. thanks!

I would get the seats you intend to use before doing any cutting. Back to back seats usually have 2 lateral 1" tubes that slide in a groove ( kind of like a track) on the seat base, for the fold down feature, so you wouldnt want to cut that away as it would be impossible to duplicate on the cut down surface.

My back to back seats were bought new 1 year ago. They sit on a box style wooden frame with storage underneath. They secure to the deck via stainless screws through the bottom support *very simple*. Mine only sit about 8" high.

Last boat I had with seats, I glassed several wood blocks to the floor that the seats would fit over and secure them in place. I did it this way because I did not want to penatrate the fiberglass on top of the wood floor with screws and allow entry of water to prevent rot.

Forgot to add - - a side benefit of using the blocks glassed to the floor was I could lift the seats out anytime.
