I am putting new carpet in my 18ft bass boat. I am buying the carpet online. Who has the best carpet and prices online. What kind should I buy? Also, I have seen it priced by the boat length or by the yard, which is better? What is the best glue to use? And last, what kind of stripping can I use to put back around the carpet once it is layed? I dont think stripping is the correct term, but its the morter around the carpet....this is my first time doing this and all opinions and comments are appreciated. Thanks - Trent Short

Re: boat carpet

Trent, Go to the nearest Home Despot and pick out some indoor/outdoor carpet. It usually comes either 6 foot or 12 foot wde, and is sold by teh linear foot. Figure out what your boat takes and try not to have a seam.

Pick up some outdoor carpet adhesive and notched trowl, and cut and install it.

Re: boat carpet

i'm looking to buy some too. there are only a few manufacturers of marine carpet and 6-8 main retailers.

first, you need to decide what weight you want. bottom end that looks more like mat than carpet is about 16 oz/yard, premium new boat carpet is often 40 oz/yard. the heavy stuff won't bend around corners for storage bins and stuff though.

you can google search for these under marine carpet.
ingles carpet
marinecarpeting.com
cabela's (this might be cheaper on shipping if there's one near you, west marine and others don't charge shipping if you have it shipped to their store instead of your house)

there are a few more

Re: boat carpet

inho, any indoor/outdoor will do. if you keep you boat covered as you should, it will never come close to the exposure, indoor/outdoor gets on a deck. basically marine is a word, that says you have to pay more for me.

but i still say carpet has no place in a boat. especially a fishing boat.
