Re: boat cleaning

Wash it first..There is no easy solution or majic wax or stuff like that... Best solution is to rub out and buff the hull with a good medium to heavy grit rubbing compound..You need to use a machine with a wool bonnet(not an orbital car waxer)...You may be able to get good results with a wool pad connected to a regular electric drill(1500-2000RPM's)... If you can afford it I would recomend to have it done by a professional detailer because it's messy and you can burn through the gelcoat if you get too aggressive with the machine.. Products by 3M and meguiers are top notch.. They cost a bit more but are worth every penny.. 3M super duty rubbing compound(part#05954) is my personal favorite for heavy oxidation... Then choose a good boat wax and use it generously..It'll look like new.. ;)

DROBB,

I’m not sure how bad your oxidation is but there is a product called Woodywax that I’ve used on my boat. It not cheap I will say that, but a couple of people I know have used it on their boats that had some oxidation and they said it worked really good. My boat doesn’t have any problems with oxidation but I like to use Woodywax every few weeks. It goes on really easy and cleaning the boat after words is a snap. I use it mostly on my dec. Stains come right off with water.

I think their web site is www.woodywax.com

Re: boat cleaning

Go to a BoatUS store and buy Collinite boat wash. It is a clear bottle with a white "substance" that resembles wax and is applied like wax. It is an incredible product! It washes the yellow/brown waterline slime off and will bring back the color to your hull. I tried it on a very old oxidized boat at the yard just to see how it worked on old boats. The color came right back! I use Nu Finish wax after cleaning. It will almost last the summer.
