boat cover / mooring cover ...how to ?

I'll be installing a dock at the cottage over the next few days because the water keeps receding further back every year. In the past I'd launch my boat at the public ramp and boogy 15min to the cottage for the weekend. Trouble is timing my departure to tend with adverse conditions (last year it rained almost every weekend) and in the open water section of my departure it gets pretty rough (I've got a 16' Springbok Resorter Aluminum 35hp '85). Not to mention the log jam at the public launch. So this year I found a used dock and figure to leave my boat in the water so I'm not pulling it in & out every weekend. That said in my search for a boat cover to keep her relatively dry and not waterlogged I finally figured out what these little socket do-hicky things are around the boat ... boat cover bow sockets - fantastic I think.
1. Make my own boat cover yes or no ? If yes how ?
2. How to use those boat cover sockets ?

1. When you see the price of the material you may choose to buy pre-made instead of making your own. There really isn't much savings.

2. Boat cover support bows or slats?

Those "sockets" are for bendable strips of wood which are bent upward in the center to support your cover and give it a bit of an arch to allow better water drainage. You can buy generic covers cheaper, but a custom fit one from a local marine cover supplier will be better and easier to remove and install.
