hello, I have a 1991 Celebrity 260 cuddy cabin with a 1991 7.4 454 Mercrusier bravo with thunderbolt ignition. About 2 months ago starter was going out but it would still fire the motor. Used it probably 20 times tell last weekend. Friday I hooked up a sub and amp. Ran postive wire and ground directly to battery and remote wire to acc switch on the switch panel in the cuddy. So that way i can turn it off and on whenever i want.

Well, saturday went to take it out and get to the dock, doesnt start, just cranks and cranks but wont start now! Also all my gauges dont work now either when the key is on or cranking. So anyways take it home test the spark plug to see if it was getting spark and nope! Coil isnt getting spark either! Also made sure that the safety laynard switch key was hooked up too. So yesterday I bought a new starter and hooked it up and still no starting, just cranks and cranks but wont fire up.

Any ideas would be great! Also all my switches on the dash all work and everything else like, blowers, bilge pumps, fans, fridgerater, fresh water pump, stereo, sub and amp, all the lights on the dash work as well including the depth finder.

PLEASE HELP!!!!

you have a popped fuse for sure, double check to make sure no connection have frey'd wires touching anything... most new radios have a remote so no need to toggle the acc wire in my opinion, especially if you have a dual battery set up and turn them off at the perko switch..... I dont care about keeping time or stations since I use iPod most of the time.. But if you want to keep time an stations in memory on your radio run the acc directly to power all the time. That way when you shut off it never loses memory and doesn't pull much down on the battery ( even after 2-3 months of non use) been down this road with mine as well..

checked all the fuses that I can see behind the dash and by battery. I was hoping it would have a fuse panel like a car does but i cant find it. Just alot of inline fuses. There is these pop out kind of fuses on the dash, below all the toggle switches but now are pushed out.

With the key in the run position, see what the voltage is on the coils + terminal. Also, check voltate on the purple wire attached to the igntion switch.

Re: Boat cranks and cranks but wont start!!!!

Hey good news, got mine running!!! All it was two purple wires that must of came loose from the safety laynard switch. There where two purple wires already hooked up so I didnt think anything of it, tell I found these other two purple wires that looked like they should have been hooked up. Cant believe I didnt see them before! I bet I looked at least 10 times behind the dash. So tested these two purple wires that where spliced together that looked like they were suppose to be on a terminal. So I slide it on the the other terminal and all the gauges had power and I started it and it fired right up!!!! Good luck buddy. Any questions please feel free to ask. Thanks again!
