boat decking installation question

I know that as a starting point to install new boat decking I need to measure down from the gunwales of the boat with a straight edge to check for level of deck material and supports and from there to configure dimensions and shape of decking supports.

Still I was contemplating leaving anywhere from 1/2 - 1" air space between top of decking material and the bottom of each bench. There has been no decking to date in the bow of the boat and I didn't plan on putting any there for now at least..I only want to create a low level surface to walk on not to raise it high in the boat and then put rotating pedestal seats or anything. I will be making the decking removable for cleaning and to dry out etc..

So does that spacing for air space between top of decking material including the carpet seem acceptable? The boat is an aluminum Sea Nymph 14R big water V-hull
