Hey guy's

I thought I'd throw this out there and see what comes back. Their are a few of us locally that are looking at a group buy (I know this is a problemin it's self LOL) of a diagnostic tool.
It would mainly be for Mercury and the odd Seadoo, I did some googling and see their are quite a few products out there.

1, Are their any good hand held units?
2, What are you guy's using and why?
3, Whats the best?
4, What the best priced IYO.

Sorry for the questions they are not meant to be read as aggressive.

Well, Mercury is outboards, Mercruiser's are IO's. Seadoo's aren't outboards or IO's.

Basically, diagnostic equipment is engine specific. What is good for one IO may not work on another.

Tools needed for testing the individual systems are listed in the service manuals for the engines. Short of a compression tester and a DVM, things change a lot.

Re: Boat diagnostic equipment.

You may want to check into the CDI MEDS tester. It is designed for Mercury, Mercruiser, Evinrude-Johnson, Suzuki, and Yamaha computer controlled EFI systems. It can also be used for troubleshooting Merc's DTS controls.

The program gives a standard dashboard like appearance on a laptop monitor and automatically changes what is needed for each engine manufacturer. Adapter cables fit each of the motors and there is no electrical connection between the outboard and the laptop. It is done by infrared sensors for electrical safety of the engine components.

The software is not protected and can be installed on every member's laptops and the cable is then shared.

I do not work for CDI or get any commissions from them, but I do own the MEDS program and use it when I service other makes of outboards.

Cheers for that, from what I've read on the tinternet the CDI one did/does look like the better product, and not being protected would work for us very nicely

Re: Boat diagnostic equipment.

Just dont lose a cord as you have to buy the software again to get one. If it damaged CDI will replace it.
