Was cruising along the lake when suddenly the boat lost power until it eventually stalled out. Find oil sprayed throughout the engine compartment but I can’t tell where it’s leakibg from. Got towed on, this is a 3.7l 165 HP motorsany ideas? The temp gauge looked good and I saw no signs of an overheat ie boiling antifreeze.

first

clean the engine bay. dawn dish soap works wonders

then find where the oil is coming from

if you lost all your oil, you would have toasted your pistons, bearings, etc.

So I did some cleanup and had a look the day this happened and was at a loss. I couldn’t find where the oil had come from. Today I took a 2nd look and noticed the oil was pretty much full so I decided to connect muffs and give it a try. Boat started right up and ran normal. I didn’t mention that before it died it would lose even more power if I played with the trim. I really thought I possibly had serious engine problems (found oil) now not so sure. Any ideas! I was going to bring it in but it’s an 88 and I don’t want to spend a fortune.

try using the trim, see if it was trim oil all over the engine comp.

Look behind the instrument panel and touch each wire where it is held in place, also the wires on the ignition switch. Then look at all the ground and positive feed wires on the engine and battery checking for tightness.

I had the boat checked out by my mechanic and he said it’s running great. Something happened out there, can somebody explain to me the symptoms of an overheat?
